Day Eleven: Matsumoto and Tokyo
Hello. This is Nick and Lucas.
Today, we started with a slightly later wake up time than normal, with a scheduled departure of 9:30. After finishing some laundry and eating breakfast, we all walked down to the Matsumoto Castle. Our Walk Japan Guide, Yo, taught us about the historical importance of the castle. He also informed us about various changes and additions over time to the building.
We then walked back to the hotel to retrieve our luggage. After walking to the train station 20 minutes later, we decided to get lunch from a nearby grocery store. We then decided to eat on the 2.5 hour long train ride, eventually arriving in Tokyo after a while.
Our long train ride landed us in the heart of Tokyo. We took a quick trip to the ticket counter where we purchased our special Tokyo subway tickets that offered us unlimited rides for 72 hours. We used them for our quick trip to our hotel, where we quickly went to our rooms and decompressed for an hour. Meeting up at 5:00 PM, we set off to go find dinner, and we found it. Our delicious meal was hurried along as we were all anxious to get to the final stop of the night: TeamLab Borderless.
TeamLab Borderless was a short walk from our restaurant, and we made our way to the area quickly. We unloaded our stuff and all split up to experience the amazing and immersive art all around us. The entire location was an intricate maze of pleasantly perplexing art exhibits. Each room was unique, and filled with lights, animated projections on the walls, and/or mirrors. We ended the night with a group photo at the central room, and then moved on to the train station. Two trains later and a quick stop at 7/11, we found ourselves back at the hotel, where we tucked in and called it a night.
Start the day with Matsumoto Castle and end it with Team Lab Borderless... such amazing creations-even mesmerizing destinations. Wise to sneak in some recovery time. Really enjoying your summaries and takes on your adventures. Welcome back to Tokyo- enjoy incredible city these 1.5 days ahead.
